Sophanie: Welcome to the She Talks Podcast, a space where we unearth the depths of a woman's journey, embracing unique experiences, passions, and perspectives. I'm your host, Sophanie and I'm beyond thrilled to embark on this transformative journey with you. This podcast is more than just a collection of episodes; it's a nurturing community of women empowering each other on the path to personal growth. Together, we aim to be positive role models, lighting the way for the girls coming behind us. Mentorship is very important and I believe in the power of it!

Today, is our first episode and I want to take a moment to share a bit of my personal journey and the vision for the She Talks Podcast. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, to parents who migrated from Haitian in the 1980s and 1990s. I am a first generation American and my upbringing was a beautiful fusion of cultures, traditions, and values. My community in New York City provided a sense of familiarity, diversity, connections, and support.

But God had his own plans for me. Right after college, I made a significant transition—I moved to Birmingham, Alabama. Leaving behind everything I knew, my family, and my close-knit community was not easy. In this new city, I faced a different environment, a different culture, but most of all a different version of myself.

It was in this transition that I looked at myself in the mirror and faced the truth. I realized that the journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance isn't always a pretty one. It's about confronting our fears, our weaknesses, embracing our vulnerabilities, and seeking growth even in the most uncertain times.

Just as I was settling into my new home, ready to build a true, authentic, and supportive community, the world was struck by COVID-19. The pandemic brought its own set of challenges, isolation, and unexpected changes. But in the face of adversity, I believe that we find strength, resilience, and the opportunity to reinvent ourselves. To be honest, I have reinvented myself so many times and that is ok.

Now, three years in, I continue to yearn for a different life. I yearn for an authentic community that corrects, uplifts, empowers, and inspires. This is why I created the She Talks Podcast— it is a place to forge connections, share stories, and create a space
where women can come together to celebrate their journeys, learn from one
another, and support each other through thick and thin.
